It was about a month ago that I heard from God to launch the “Wildfires” campaign.
In 2015, God began to speak to Parker and I about moving to California and launching Salt Churches. He showed us dreams, visions and stirred us to steward the Revival that was coming to Orange County, California. We were excited and expectant to be a part of the move of God that was happening on the West Coast although it cost us much as we left our families, very close friends, ministry positions and salaries with a two month old baby.
Since we arrived in California, we have been able to share the Gospel, make disciples and launch four micro churches in under two years. We are witnessing our church members become fully alive and radically transformed by the power and love of God. Since 2015, we have received several encouraging words / prophecies for Salt Churches - many mentioning wildfires.
Some of the words have been:
Salt Churches will move like a wildfire - it will spread an unstoppable Kingdom.
You and your churches are receiving more fire - the fire that will pour out of your churches will be revolutionary to Orange County.
Hebrews 1:7 - In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire.”
Like firefighters respond to a wildfire - this is how you need to respond to the move of God. There is a great urgency to reach the lost and make disciples.
A fire is coming - a refining fire - in you and then through you. Orange County is a sleeping giant.
Like in the moving Lord of the Rings - a small few will fight to ignite the first flame which will then set off other flames in other cities. These will be your churches.
These are just a select few of the encouraging words we have received in such a short amount of time. We began to plan for next year and could not shake the word “wildfires.”
On November 7th, 2018 - we launched our first teaser post to begin to prepare for the launch of “Wildfires” which was set to officially launch on November 11th. After Victoria posted the teasers, I felt something stirring in my Spirit that this was something bigger than I thought.
Initially, we had set out to launch our campaign to invite 1,000 people to invest $5 per month and join our church planting movement. With these investments, we are planning to launch 5 new micro churches in 2019. These churches would focus on sharing the Gospel, making disciples and then multiplying and starting new churches. If the churches continue to multiply - we would launch 450 NEW micro churches in only 5 years. We believe that this is the most effective way to make disciples and sustain revival by fulfilling the Great Commission.
Much to my surprise, on Thursday I got a call that one of the members of our church that lives in Calabasas was being evacuated from her home because of a “wildfire.” In the midst of editing our “Wildfire video” which will launch next month, I read the news and was in shock to see how quickly the wildfire was spreading. Over the weekend, my newsfeed was filled with articles and photos of people losing their homes and slowly watching the death toll rise. We decided as a leadership team to “pause” the launch of the wildfires campaign and to pray for those that live just an hour away from us.
The following day, a very close friend gave me a gift - beautiful matches and a note (see photo) unaware of the wildfires campaign we have been working on secretly. She is someone that hears from God very very specifically and I felt that this was a HUGE confirmation of what God had been saying to us as a church.
Today - I checked the news to see that this may be one of the most destructive wildfires in California history. My heart is aching for the people in this state that have lost loved ones or are losing their homes and more. My natural response in such a time of crisis is to become overwhelmed with grief. Yet, as I opened my Bible I read:
Hebrews 12:26-29 (NIV)
At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”
In the midst of so much loss, distress and confusion spreading across this state that I call home, I am stirred with conviction wondering what God is wanting us to do in response. I can’t help but wonder if God was giving us a vision for a church planting movement called “wildfires” knowing that in a time of great despair we could ignite America with a fire of hope. As I read the newspaper articles of celebrities losing their homes, I wonder if now is the time to share with them a Kingdom that cannot be shaken. As I want to “pause” the wildfires movement unsure of what is happening in the natural and how it is effecting so many around us, I wonder if maybe this is the time to press into the supernatural and spread a wildfire of love, redemption and the power of God.
